WHAT IS MOVEMENT MEDICINE?

Movement Medicine is a resource-oriented movement and mindfulness practice that aids you in regaining your centre and feeling whole and connected. Through movement and the natural, creative expression of your body, you learn to become even more present. You get to know yourself better, strengthening yourself consciously and empowering yourself in a unique manner, to dance your dance of life. At times completely for yourself, at times with others. Movement is life!
Movement Medicine provides impulses and guidance which are based on shamanic knowledge, findings of current neuroscience and Gestalt therapy. In a space free of value judgements, you move to music that invites you to entrust yourself to your inner dancer (= your own deeper inner knowledge) and to follow your very own rhythm.

Movement Medicine was founded by Ya’Acov and Susannah Darling Khan after 20 years of teaching 5 Rhythms and working closely with Gabrielle Roth. They then developed Movement Medicine to more fully encompass the wholeness of life. To me, the map (the mandala) of Movement Medicine is a truly comprehensive description of relevant dimensions of this life. Without explaining the mandala completely, it can be stated that it embraces, among other things, different levels of relationships (us with ourselves, with others, with community, with the ancestors and everything invisible as well as with the creative, divine source), temporal dimensions (past, present, future) or the elements earth, fire, water, air, which make up all the components of our body.

TESTIMONIALS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE PRACTICES MOVEMENT MEDICINE WITH ME…

I am excited about the goal of Movement Medicine: to bring my body, my mind and my soul into harmony. Petra made Movement Medicine accessible to me, for which I am very grateful. I was fortunate enough to experience several sessions with her – both in presence and video sessions. What I particularly like: Petra takes great care in selecting very beautiful musical pieces that appeal to my emotions and evoke them. She has a very pleasant voice and speaks neither too much nor too little. Her impulses to “dance differently than usually” serve to move me in several ways – I enter meditative states, my (overly dominant) brain restrains itself, comes to rest, my body expresses what I feel. I become in sync with myself and the universe. Petra opens up free spaces – free of evaluation, I can move the way I feel and free of any missionarism! She does not wish to convert me. She does not push me in any one direction. After each dance session, I feel freer, more relaxed, grounded, pure and happier. I look forward to all future sessions with Petra!

After meeting Petra for the first time in a location she had chosen particularly well and allowing myself to be accompanied by her gentleness in musical selection and words, I literally felt high afterwards. My whole body was deeply connected to myself and felt both light and full at the same time. For me, the special thing about her offering is the volume of the music, which is a rather quietly chosen level for a dance event. The great thing about it is that the music never becomes too dominant and you can draw more on your own resources. This leads to the movement coming more from the inside. The music is only one possible means of support and this has often helped me to meet my truth. The dance is continuously accompanied by words from Petra. Again, I experience the way she does it only as a potential source of support. The words always seem to be very open and freely chosen, very soft and feminine and not at all like a set of instructions. Often, I do not even listen but feel them nevertheless. It is truly a wonderful medicine for body and soul to meet oneself in the true core. Precisely because this offer has such a profound effect and this feminine power of tranquillity is so clearly felt, I would say that this offering is tailored to people with experience in bodywork. There is a tremendous power of presence in the room and not everyone can handle this. Thank you Petra for your wonderful offering!

Initially, I was a little sceptical with regard to online dance offerings in general – but Petra has a wonderful way of lovingly tending to the space at virtual events too, so that I was able to experience and explore dance safely during the Movement Medicine dance offerings. I was able to delve further into inner aspects IN and THROUGH the movement, accompanied by inspiring music and Petra’s directions. At the end of the session, there was a feeling of peace, inner expansion, connection with the other participants (although unknown and geographically far away) and a sense of sanctuary. I had never experienced this in this way at an online event before, and I have experienced it over and over again with Petra – that she has the wonderful ability to sustain the space (even virtually) as if everyone were in the same room dancing together. Petra has this talent of accompanying the people in this room through words and wonderful choices of music. I am very grateful for being able to participate in the Movement-Medicine practice through her online offerings, even from a greater geographical distance.

After each Movement Medicine session, I feel free and internally replenished for a long time. Just letting go and dancing – with the right rhythm you ensure that it is going to be good… Thanks Petra!
